St. Art: The Visual Poetry of bpNichol In the summer of 2000, the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum, Charlottetown, PEI, mounted the first large-gallery solo show of bpNichol's visual poetry, commemorating the event with a catalogue featuring three incisive essays and a sampling of black-and-white reproductions, including some rare Lonely Fred comic strips and some never-before-seen notebook sketches. Writer-curator Gil McElroy and poet-essayist Paul Dutton provide their individual overviews of and insights into Nichol's distinctive visual-linguistic imagination, artist Barbara Caruso offers a revised version of an earlier essay on her collaborations with Nichol, and the poet's own words are given in his notes to a 1979 exhibit. A great introduction for those new to Nichol's work and a feast of illuminating insights for Nichol fans. 7 1/4 x 11, 86 pages, soft-cover, perfectbound, 2 half-tones, 30 line-drawings.
